News reports that wildfires are raging across the Carolinas, prompting South Carolina Governor McMaster to declare a state of emergency. The blazes, fueled by dry conditions and high winds, have burned thousands of acres. The largest fire, in Carolina Forest, is 0% contained and has led to evacuations. Firefighters and the South Carolina Army National Guard are battling the fires, employing Black Hawk helicopters for water drops. A statewide burning ban is in effect in South Carolina, while North Carolina faces a significant brush fire in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
