The SAT has changed dramatically—and succeeding on the digital SAT requires a different approach than preparing for the old paper-and-pencil exam.

Instead of long reading passages followed by multiple questions, the digital SAT Reading and Writing section uses passages ranging from 25 to 150 words, with a single multiple-choice question tied to each passage. That change puts a new emphasis on mental agility: students must quickly move between literature, history, social studies, humanities, and science while applying different analytical skills.

• Information and Ideas — interpreting, evaluating, and integrating information, including tables and graphs
• Craft and Structure — analyzing vocabulary in context, rhetorical choices, and how texts are constructed

Mike and Susan explain one of the biggest changes of all: multi-stage adaptive testing. After completing Module 1, a student’s performance determines whether the second module becomes easier or more difficult. That adaptive structure allows the test to measure ability more efficiently while making strategy and familiarity with the testing platform increasingly important.
